Meet our Photography & Videography Teacher:
Mr. Martinez is excited to teach both photography and filmography this year! When he is not at school teaching math and science, he likes to go and find local places in Orange County to practice his photography skills. What he learns from composition, to editing, he brings his knowledge to his students, and helps them gain the basic tools so they too can explore and express their creativity in photos and film. Both photography and filmography are forms of art that can glorify God's design and creation, and we can capture His beauty in what He made to share with family and friends.
Photography
The Photography course introduces students to the art and skill of visual storytelling through still images. Students learn how to use cameras with confidence while exploring foundational concepts such as composition, lighting, perspective, and exposure. Emphasis is placed on seeing the world thoughtfully and creatively, helping students develop an eye for detail and meaning in everyday moments.
Throughout the semester, students apply both technical and artistic skills through hands-on projects, critiques, and guided practice. In addition to taking photos, students learn basic photo editing and how to present their work professionally. The course encourages creativity, patience, and personal expression while fostering an appreciation for photography as both an art form and a practical communication tool.
Filmography
Filmography introduces students to the language of film and visual storytelling through movies and short scenes. Students learn how filmmakers use camera angles, movement, lighting, sound, and editing to communicate ideas, emotions, and themes. By analyzing age-appropriate films and scenes, students develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of how stories are told visually.
Students also explore the creative process behind film making, including planning shots, understanding story structure, and recognizing the teamwork involved in film production. The course encourages thoughtful discussion, media literacy, and creativity while helping students become more intentional viewers and storytellers in a media-rich world.
