Heritage Discovery Camp provides an engaging program for children (ages 5–14) designed with hands-on activities
including super science experiments, exciting explorations, awesome art projects, wonderful water play, and so much more!
Students will have the opportunity to discover the world we live as they interact with our exciting special guest presenters.
Fabulous Fridays are a time for parents to share in the fun as we celebrate the weekly theme through performances,
parades, and parties. Each unique week is action packed and full of fun – all this without leaving our beautiful campus. We
look forward to a great summer with your child as they attend Discovery Camp 2010!
Week 1 (June 28 – July 2)
Celebrate USAGear up for the 4th of July as we celebrate the Independence of the USA. Join us for patriotic games
including potato sack races, three-legged races, and spirited team relays. Create red, white, and blue
symbolic art and participate in our Patriotic Parade Presentation. The emphasis this week is on honoring
our nation with special guests that include the Armed Forces and Firefighter/fire engine visit.
Week 2 (July 6 – July 9) – Beach Blast - No Camp July 5th
“Catch a wave and you’re sitting on top of the world” is the theme for this week as we prepare for our
Beach Luau. Come splish-splash and have fun with us for beach themed activities including water
relays, luau limbo, lava tubes, and our annual WET ZONE! With water as our emphasis this week,
special guests include a beach lifeguard and a professional surfer.
Week 3 (July 12 – July 16) – Green Planet
Going green is all the craze - discover what you can do to make a difference! Reducing, reusing, and
recycling is the focus as we create eco-friendly art, use solar power to enjoy s’mores, discover what a carbon
footprint is and how it affects our changing planet. Living green is the emphasis this week with special
guests that include an environmentalist and a representative from our local waste management company.
Week 4 (July 19 – July 23) – Heart, Brain & Body Power
Get pumped up this week by exploring the power within your amazing heart, brain and body. Discover
how awesome the human body is by engaging in hands-on activities about each of the major systems
including being heart smart, growing guts, and creating lungs in a cup. Personal health and nutrition
are the emphasis this week with special guests including a nurse and a pediatric nutritionist.
Week 5 (July 26 – July 30) – Superstar Talent
Got Talent? Calling all superstars to take part in our Discovery Camp Talent Show! This week you are
the celebrity as you participate in “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Star Search,” and “Who’s Line Is It
Anyway?” You will discover a true super star as you create a model of the Milky Way Galaxy. Special
guests this week include a super star dance visitor and a performance by our very own camp counselor
band.
Week 6 (August 2 – August 6) – Extreme Sports
Kick off this week with intensity, as we get ready to have some extreme fun! This week is action packed
with team building activities; such as capture the flag, ultimate Frisbee, and an outdoor obstacle course.
Discover the science behind awesome roller coasters, hang gliders, rocket blasters, and parachutes.
Extreme special guests include a karate demonstration and an extreme sport visitor.
Week 7 (August 9 – August 13) – Awesome Oceans
Dive right in and come explore all the awesome creatures of the deep blue sea. Discover the wonders
of our beautiful ocean as we explore the luminescence of the jellyfish, what makes a shark attack, and
the crazy creatures of the deep abyss. Participate in team building crab walk relays, octopus tag, and
duck-duck-splash. Special guests this week include deep-sea scuba divers and the Aquarium of the
Pacific.
Week 8 (August 16 – August 20) – Jungle Safari
Take a walk on the wild side as we go on a jungle safari! Discover all the magnificent creatures that live in
the tropics, including frogs, lizards, insects, birds, and so much more! Could you survive in the wild? As a
member of your tribe, you will participate in tribal relays, survival scenarios, and even the jungle boogie. A
true adventure it will be with special guests the Lizard Lady and the birds of prey.
Week 9 (August 23 – August 27) – Dino Dig
Dig in and discover what it is like to be a paleontologist. Look for fossils, break open crystal
geodes, build a volcano and make a model dinosaur! Analyze soil samples and identify different
types of rocks as we explore the reason the dinosaurs no longer roam the earth. What happen over
200 million years ago that lead to their extinction? Special guests include super scientists, and
children’s author Richard Wrate who wrote Din-o-mite in Aaron’s Closet.
Heritage Discovery Camp has been creating positive memories for years by providing a program that is designed to excite, energize, and engage campers through a variety of hands-on activities, explorations, and special guest presentations. Our caring and dedicated counselors are committed to providing an amazing summer camp experience for each and every camper. To ensure a safe and fun camp experience, all staff members are CPR, first aid, and water-safety certified.
