High School Independent Study Program (ISP)

Studying

The ISP at Heritage Christian School is designed to assist students to satisfy High School state graduation requirements as well as University entrance requirements in an individualized academic program.  Each student’s academic program is designed to meet the student’s needs and objectives.

ACADEMICS AND CURRICULUM:  Each student undergoes a needs assessment process that will lead to creating the student’s academic program.  The state approved textbooks parallel the curriculum used in the Capistrano and Saddleback School Districts.  In addition, the satisfactory completion of HCS Bible curriculum is mandatory for every ISP student.

TEACHERS AND MENTORS:  Qualified and Credentialed teachers are assigned to monitor the student’s progress.  Each student spends on campus four hours twice a week with their assigned teacher and mentor.  During this “mentoring time” students receive tutoring, counseling, turn in assignments, and get direction for future assignments.

TRANSCRIPTS AND RECORDS:  HCS provides each student with official progress reports, report cards, transcripts and an online academic information system.

ASSESSMENT:  HCS provides assessment tests needed for placement.  In addition, HCS provides resources needed for College entrance exams.  HCS also provides assessment of the high school exit exam.

ATHLETICS:  HCS provides CIF approved sport opportunities if the number of students enrolled supports the sport.  ISP P.E. opportunities are also available

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:  HCS provides students with extracurricular activities that enhance their overall school experience.  Opportunities for outreach, mission trips, field trips and social activities are offered to students!

ACCREDITATION:  HCS is seeking accreditation through WASC and ACSI upon the start of the program in September 2007 and will be subject to their scope and guidelines.

AUXILIARY RESOURCE PROGRAMS:  Participation in programs such as music, dance, art and elective type courses are coordinated to meet graduation requirements.  Competitive programs are offered to students that choose to participate in such programs.

Please Note: Classes taken through HCS ISP are transferrable only to other ISP, Home school and Private schools. They are non-transferrable to Public schools.
